Overview:
The AmeriCorps mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.
AmeriCorps is a national service program that involves people of all ages and backgrounds in helping communities address critical needs in:
- Education
- Environment
- Public safety
- Homeland Security
- Other human needs
Eligible Grant Applicants
Public or private nonprofit organizations, including labor organizations; faith-based and other community organizations; institutions of higher education; government entities within states or territories (e.g., cities, counties); Indian Tribes; or a partnership or consortia consisting of the aforementioned are eligible to apply.
Participant Incentives
In addition to the experience they receive and the knowledge that they have made a difference, members may also be eligible to receive a living allowance, health insurance, child care, and an education award of up-to $4,725 that can be used to repay school loans or tuition.
Local Match
There is a minimum overall grantee match of 24%. Starting with the fourth year of funding, the overall match increases to 26%. The match increases to 50% by the tenth year of funding and any year thereafter.
