Current North Dakota AmeriCorps Programs

North Dakota Reading Corps is an initiative to help every ND child become a successful reader by the end of third grade. Reading Corps combines the power of national service with the literacy science to transform age 3 to grade 3 students into proficient readers. The program places AmeriCorps members as literacy tutors in Fargo, Jamestown, West Fargo, Bismarck and surrounding school districts plus early childhood programs to implement research-based early literacy interventions for struggling readers. Tutors work one-on-one with students who are below proficiency in reading. Reading Corps tutors serve 15 or 20 hours per week August through May. No experience in education is required, tutors are trained on all materials and are supported by a coach at their school. Contact Jolene Garty at jolene.garty@k12.nd.us or 701-446-3173.
